WOODSTOCK

Postby mr kite on Tue Oct 23, 2007 9:19 pm

Woodstock , was the greatest festival in music history ?
I think so , luckily it was well documented , and the film just blows me away, i guess this film got me into the 60s
apart from the Beatles .
A few who played .
Jimi Hendrix
The Who
Crosby stills , Nash and Young
Santana
Ten Years After
Joan Baez
Arlo guthrie
Jefferson Airplane
Canned Heat
Janis Joplin
Ritchie Havens

Oh to have been there 8)
And then over a cup of tea
We talked about whatever that came to our heads
That was delightful, I said

Joe Cocker , doing a great version of A Little Help From Me Friends
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/eOwl_APqVm4&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/eOwl_APqVm4&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Did Joe Invent the air guitar ? :P

Quiz bit .
A tricky one this , apart from the obvious , what else connects this performance to a Beatle ?
Also on the Joe Cocker studio version of this song , who played Lead Guitar ?
And where was Joe born ? [ i know he`s English ]

When you say "the performance", do you mean the performance of Joe Cocker or the whole Woodstock Festival?
Lead guitar is Jimmy Page, i think, maybe.... :?
Joe was born in Sheffield, i reckon.

Can you upload Janis Joplin doing Summertime? [if you find it, and if you have the time, Kitie?] :D

Yeah, wise words there Honey, wise words ;)
No disrespect to Mr Cocker of course... just that... I like the original so much :)
I know that doesn't preclude me from liking the other version, but as it happens I don't (but that's just me).
And imagine this: you go to a Beatles tribute concert - a Beatles tribute concert, and a song that you love is being announced, and you know it's the only favourite-Beatle song that they're going to play at this concert, and it's all so exciting, and the song comes on, and.......... they're doing it the Joe Cocker way :(
I hope I have explained myself ;)
They also seem to play Joe Cocker's version on the radio quite a bit, and never the Beatles version... why?? :?

Ah well... excuse the rant you guys, just thought i'd explain  ;)

Santana's Soul Sacrifice is great! 8)
Lovely drums/percussiony bit, and awesome guitar coming in later 8)
And Jimi Hendrix is something!! Very cool 8)
Would you believe me if I told you I was being followed by a Yellow Submarine?

Voodoo Child aint my favourite... The other one is great. A great man jimi is- he certainly can play that guitar!. Read his biography-its interesting.

Janis Joplin did do Summertime in Woodstock [apparently].... :?

The quiz -Joe cocker's band has Henry McCullough [spelling?]who was in Wings. Hence the connection to Paul.
But you can also find a connection to George. James Page played lead guitar with Joe cocker and james had an affair with Pattie and also he played with eric clapton. Hence the connection.
Another connection of the whole Woodstock festival to a beatle is that John was asked if the beatles could play John said he doubts it but offered to play with his plastic Ono band but was refuzed.
So now we need to find a Ringo link! James Page played with The Who [i think] and Zak Starkey was their drummer.

Correct, It was Henry McCullough 8), we have a prize winner
Jimmy Page did not play with The Who , it was a story that he played the lead on I Cant Explain , but it was in fact Pete Townshend.
The Who were at Woodstock so , i guess that can connect Ringo to Woodstock :)
Enter The Who.
My Generation . 8) 8) 8) 8)
