Kate Bush

Postby mr kite on Mon Jan 14, 2008 10:52 am

Kate Bush was a talent at such an early age she was writing songs from he age of 13 and with her 2 brothers
she formed a band and they played pubs , and she was discovered by Pink Floyds Dave Gilmour and she was
signed up by E.M.I. and the rest is history .
Kate is been my favourite singer from the moment i bought A kick Inside, and then LionHeart .
Kate Bush only released 2 albums in the 70s , but what great albums, i hope you give the songs a listen
she is a truly great artist and heres a few of her songs from the 70s .

Symphony In Blue [ live ] from Lionheart . 8)

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-VzIIBt2uxY&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-VzIIBt2uxY&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Wow from Lionheart
This song came from how well her debut album was doing in the charts and when she was asked what she thought
of her instant success all she could say was Wow !

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QgtKomEc924&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QgtKomEc924&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Heres Kate on tour in 1979 singing on of my favourites
Oh England My Lionheart from Lionheart.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xakoLYwokBo&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xakoLYwokBo&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

A nervous performance but still a joy to listen to .
And then over a cup of tea
We talked about whatever that came to our heads
That was delightful, I said

She is fab that girl! I just listened to her and Gilmour doing Comfortably Numb- great performance!

She is extremely flexible (ie Running up the hill)

Love the music you put there, mr kite.

"People weren't even generally aware that I wrote my own songs or played the piano. The media just promoted me as a female body. It's like I've had to prove that I'm an artist in a female body." [She says in an NME magazine, 1982].

From what I read, Kate tends to critisize the media and publishers for not letting her do it her way at her own pace. But then I also know that Kate is one of these people who knows no boundries [as her songs show]. So i ask myself, if she didnt like proving that she is an "artist in a female body" why go on with it? She is supposed to have her own mind, nevermind what the media says.
Also, the theme of her songs, and taking into account the age she wrote some of them, well, I think she did enjoy promoting the way she did...

Do we agree or disagree?

Thats an intersesting thought Honey .

I do my best to try and get my opinion over :?

As you may know the album cover to her first album The Kick Inside , this was not to have been the original
The first cover had a head shot of her in just a vest , and not much left to the imagination
If she had gone with this cover , and i`m speaking from a male point of view she would have sold a hell
of a lot more copies than it did .
If you look at todays female artists they are selling an image , and then its oh, and we can sing a bit .
When i first saw Kate , it never entered my head that she was a sex symbol , then a singer , it was the
songs that got me into her , i remember W. Heights and it was a good song nothing special .
Then she released A Man With A Child , and i as was amazed at the beauty of it and the simplisty and
not your boy meets girl chart pop song , in this song alone you could see Kate was not a manufactured
Sex Symbol who can write and sing a bit .
I guess she may seem to be using her sexuality to "sell" records , but she is a woman and in the age
she was at the time , she was a young and beautiful and you cant expect her to cover herself up and
do a video of A Man with a raincoat on , now that would not be in a artist interpratation of the song
would it . :?

Kate is a great singer and song writer and musician , i cant say that there is many female artists today
who can touch her , she is without doubt a one off . 8)

How was that then Honey :D

Kate Bush .

I do see what you mean, Kitie. But I also do think that at the time she enjoyed it whereas afterwards, after she gained her postion in fame she started to critisize. I could probably understand more if she would have said something along the lines of "crickey when i was younger i was i used to do things i wont do now" as opposed to "they were trying to sell my image rather than my music and i hated it" [because she didnt, in my opinion].

Thank you for the song Kitie, a real good one!

Yes, I know I'm stubborn, but Running up That Hill video, Wuthering Heights vid, Moments of Pleasure vid.... dont they all support my point?

I don`t think those videos are a aim at my hormones !
But Moments Of Pleasure ,is a song of emotions of love and the pleasure it brings so i cant see how she is exploiting her sexuality , i think its a song from the heart , and not the bigger car its going to buy her .
